A Living Will, also known as a Health Care Directive, is a written statement detailing your desires regarding your medical treatment when you are no longer able to communicate.
In a Living Will, you designate who will be your Health Care Agent. A Health Care Agent is the person who would make medical decisions about your care if you were unable to communicate. Some of the medical decisions you can direct in your Living Will are: how to handle life support, religious affiliations to guide hospital chaplains and pain management. Also, you can direct, upon your death whether you want to donate body parts and whether you want to be cremated or buried.
